Riverside Resource Recovery (RRR)
Energy from Waste Facility

The Riverside Energy from Waste facility at Belvedere in the London Borough of Bexley, is Cory Environmental's single most significant development project. With an average annual capacity of 585,000 tonnes, it is an important strategic river-served waste management facility for London, helping the capital to manage its own waste, keeping over 100,000 HGVs off the capital's congested roads each year and making a real contribution to London's ability to meet its landfill diversion targets.

Riverside Update - Spring 2012.

Cory Environmental took full operational control of the facility in October 2011. Construction and hot commissioning of Riverside is complete and the plant is now in a sustained period of reliability, performance and availability trials. It is processing waste from across London, delivered by both river and road.

Hot commissioning began in February 2011 to prove the plant’s waste combustion ability. In October 2011 Riverside commenced a sustained period of reliability, performance and availability trials to fully test all of the plant’s systems to demonstrate that it is capable of sustained operation at the design capacity and meets the intended operating performance ready for full operation.

All three processing lines are running well and tests have proven the total plant capacity. The plant is exporting electricity to the National Grid.

Over 60 Cory Environmental staff are now working on-site alongside operations support managers from Wheelabrator Technologies Inc.

Cory’s river operations are a key aspect of the process for Riverside, with over 85% of the waste being brought to the plant on barges along the River Thames. The Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) produced by Riverside is also taken away on the river to a new IBA processing facility developed at Tilbury Docks.
