Cdr John Mankerty

I joined the Royal Navy in 1952 as a boy and served in Frigates, Destroyers and two Aircraft Carriers. I was commissioned from the rate of Petty Officer to Sub Lieutenant in 1964 and retired in 1988 as a Commander.
I was awarded the OBE in 1987. I saw service in the Suez, Cyprus, Indonesia and Northern Ireland campaigns.
On leaving the service I became involved with local government and joined the BADAIR team to oppose the building of the incinerator at Belvedere. With 36 years as a seaman, my particular interest is the carriage of materials via the river.
