Cory Environmental recently held the public exhibition in Haydock and Newton-le-Willows with 124 local residents and other interested people attending. Comments were received from 69 people on Cory’s proposal for a new Visitor Centre on the site and plans to complete the restoration of the colliery spoil heaps to a Country Park.
Ian Craven, Area Manager for Cory Environmental, said “It was wonderful to hear so many positive comments at our public exhibition. The team at Lyme & Wood have been working tirelessly over the last few years to deliver a great facility for the local community and we are delighted at the response this is receiving.”
The Lyme & Wood Pits Country Park, off Vista Road, has been developed by Cory Environmental by reclaiming the site of the former colliery spoil heaps from the Lyme and Wood Pits. Over 100,000 trees have been planted and 85% of the site is now open to the public.
Cory has created a footpath network, a variety of nature and wildlife habitats including traditional hay and wildflower meadows, and installed information boards, signs, benches and picnic tables around the park.
A full report of the comments from the public exhibition has been produced and is available on the Cory Environmental website, click here. |
