Aldridge ‘Stick and Wicket’ Club now has great energy efficient facilities for all its eager sports players, thanks to a generous grant of £15,000 from Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust (ICET). The newly installed, double glazed windows, doors and skylights will help save energy and improve security, as well as upgrading the appearance of the club.
The new facilities are now open for everyone to enjoy, including everyday training for boys and girls of all ages. The club is now geared up for cricket, football and hockey matches, played on the grounds on a weekly basis, as well as gymnastic competitions — it really is ‘all action’ at Aldridge.
And players will no longer have to bring their thermals to training during the winter months. The 40 year old single- glazed windows and doors have all been replaced with brand spanking new double-glazed units.
Mr Simmonds, coach for the boys Under 11’s Cricket Team, is thrilled at the newly re-furbished facilities. He said “It’s been great for the club in reducing the energy consumption and in turn, reducing the bills! This means, we can spend more on the equipment and help develop the sports skills on the pitch which Aldridge ‘Stick and Wicket’ Club continuously aims to improve.”
Megan Thompson, coach for the Girls’ Hockey Team, is made up with the new double glazing work and hopes it will help improve the club’s image. She said: “We’re anticipating the improvements will attract many more members to join in the range of sporting teams we have to offer at Aldridge and it’s all thanks to ICET.”
John Rowley, Chairman of the Aldridge ‘Stick and Wicket’ Club is delighted with the new installation of the windows and doors. He said: “Our major concern was the single-glazed windows, as they didn’t retain much heat and, as most of our club members are young children, our priority was their health and safety.”
He added: “I am very pleased with the work carried out on the club. Without the funding from ICET this would have not been possible. This great project has helped us improve our energy efficiency and, in turn, reduced our electricity bills”.
ICET has previously supported the club by donating a grant of £15,000 to refurbish the much needed flat roof on the club, preventing any further leaks and unexpected showers!
Angela Haymonds, Secretary of ICET, said “The project has been a great success in making the facilities at Aldridge ‘Stick and Wicket’ Club a safer and more energy efficient place for all involved.”
Angela continued : “This is just one of the many community projects Ibstock Cory Environmental Trust has funded through Landfill Communities Fund (LCF). The scheme offers funding to projects that benefit communities living within 10 miles of a landfill site. Groups interested in submitting projects should visit our website to find out more.” |
