Cory donation secures new van for Furniture Recycling Project
Date: 01-03-2010

The Furniture Recycling Project (FRP) is a charity which has been operating since 1996 and is now one of the leading projects of its type in England. It provides recycled furniture and electrical goods throughout Gloucestershire. To date FRP has supplied over 150,000 reused items in Gloucestershire, and the new van will help it continue its collection and delivery service.

The charity also provides opportunities for approximately 50 young people per year to obtain training in a range of skills, including distribution, electrical, customer service, woodwork and administration. FRP also offers many volunteering opportunities and has a repair section providing work skills to individuals with learning disabilities.

Malcolm Ward, Chief Executive Officer, Cory Environmental, said: 'FRP is a highly regarded organisation that is delivering some really excellent work. It relies on volunteers and donations to keep them operating so we're really pleased to be able to help secure its new van.'

The Furniture Recycling Project collects items directly from the public, free of charge. The items are then inspected and, where possible, refurbished to ensure they meet safety and cleanliness standards. Once refurbished, the furniture and household items are distributed to disadvantaged groups, such as people who are unemployed, single parents, the elderly, disabled and those on a low income, throughout Gloucestershire.

Ian Ellis, Chief Executive, FRP, said: 'Our current van is itself now in need of recycling after carrying out approximately 25,000 collections and deilveries during its life, so we're very grateful for the donation from Cory Environmental which will help us get a new van. This will enable us to continue providing our much needed service especially in this difficult economic climate, making a real difference to people in Gloucestershire.

'The Furniture Recycling Project has also saved carbon emissions equivalent to voer 200 jumbo jet flights full of passengers from London to New York since opening in 1996. I believe that the support from Cory Environmental is testament to their resolve in working with the community to improve our environment and our community.'
