Cory's Integrated Management System (IMS) integrates OHSAS with the existing ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 management systems to ensure efficiency and consistency of operating standards across the whole of the business. The certification recognises Cory's commitment to 'continual improvement in Health and Safety, Environmental Performance and Quality of Service to its customers'.
Chris Jones, Director of Risk Management and Compliance, Cory Environmental, said: 'This really is a great achievement for Cory, and confirms the high standards to which the company is operating. As with most waste management companies we operate from many different sites, providing a range of different services. It is very important for us to be able to ensure that the high standards that we set for quality of delivery, health and safety and environmental performance are sustained across our operations, and getting our IMS certified provides confirmation of this.'
During an intense inspection process, Bureau Veritas, the world's leading certification body, assessed the IMS against OHSAS 18001 - an assessment specification for Occupational Health and Safety created from a number of the world's leading national standards bodies - to ensure one agreed standard for measuring Occupational Health and Safety.
In addition to the OHSAS 18001 certification, the IMS at Cory's Resource Logistics sites has also been certified to ISO 9001. These two new certificates complement the ISO 14001 certification of the IMS achieved in 2009 across all Cory's sites.
Chris Jones continued: 'The work in obtaining these certifications is extensive and the latest one took more than a year. However, we believe that it is well worth the effort to have the company formally recognised as operating to the highest industry standards, and provides our customers with reassurance that they are working with a company that is striving for excellence in all its operations.'
