A new landfill gas utilisation plant has begun operation at Cory Environmental's Hafod landfill site in Wrexham, Wales.
The gas utilisation plant is the first system the company has entirely built and operated and will convert landfill gas collected from the landfill site into renewable electricity. The plant currently delivers up to 1.75MW of export capacity via a Cummins Generator Unit and associated process equipment. The electricity created from the generator will then be exported via a newly installed electrical connection at the site. Cory's gas generator is eligible for certification under the Renewables Obligation Order.
'The new generator will allow us to use the waste we collect as a source of fuel,' said Alistair Holl, Director of Resource Management at Cory Environmental. 'It will mean that the Hafod site will now be an important source of power as well as a place to dispose of residual waste.'
