Following discussions early in 2006, Cory was asked to design and implement a best practice waste solution for the site, which includes a new 180,000 square feet distribution centre, offices and grounds.
Direct Wines supplies wine to Laithwaites and the Sunday Times Wine Club, as well as other direct wine sales ventures including those of American Express and BA, delivering over 50 million bottles a year.
With a strong corporate affairs agenda of efficient waste management, Direct Wines were looking for a company that would work proactively to recycle as much waste as possible and offer an environmentally sound solution.
After a process of selection, Cory Environmental Recycling Services was chosen, having demonstrated how its recycling-led approach would reduce costs, minimise landfill and ensure compliance with waste legislation.
A wide mix of materials will be segregated and recycled, ranging from plastics, cardboard, wood and metal through to cans, toner cartridges and paper, with only a small volume of residual waste going to landfill.
Kevin Hanley, Supply Chain Manager at Direct Wines commented: "We are very pleased with the way that Cory has responded. We were attracted by their strong record in delivering this type of one-stop waste control system. We plan to extend this to our other sites in 2007."
Julian Harrison, General Manager at Cory Environmental Recycling Services, said: " We have been working closely with Direct Wines to develop and implement this extensive recycling plan and I'm obviously very proud of our joint achievement."
