Cory appointed by North Somerset for waste treatment and disposal
Date: 26-11-2009

Cory has won a seven year contract for the treatment and disposal of waste in North Somerset. The contract, which has a seven year extension option, will start on 1 March 2010 and is worth some £80 million if the full 14 year option is taken up. The multi-faceted contract involves the management of an existing transfer station, the treatment of food waste and green waste, and the disposal of residual waste.

Steve Rogers, Senior Development Manager, Cory Environmental said: 'We have been able to provide North Somerset with a solution that works across its waste activities. This contract reinforces Cory's reputation as 'the waste partner of choice' when it comes to both treatment and disposal.'

Cory has a strong presence in the South West, especially in Gloucestershire and the West of England where it has worked successfully for a number of years. The food waste collected in Somerset will be treated by Cory's partners New Earth Solutions.

Carl Francis-Pester, Executive Member with responsibility for environmental issues at North Somerset Council said: 'Cory has proved its capability and flexibility through the tendering process and we're looking forward to developing our partnership going forward. The contract provides the Council with a great opportunity to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste going to landfill, increase recycling rates and provide value for money.'
