Cory Environmental and Ibstock Brick have resubmitted their planning application for a landfill site at Laybrook Brickworks Quarry. This follows the application having been withdrawn on 18 September 2009 following a threatened legal challenge to it. To overcome this potential problem Cory Environmental has made an amendment to the application form which has no bearing on the content of the application.
John Boldon, Director of Planning and Estates for Cory Environmental, stated: “We are pleased to have resubmitted the application, which is for the same scheme to use the brickworks quarry as a landfill site and to restore it to a mix of agricultural land, woodland, wetland and nature conservation habitats.”
He continued: “Following the threatened legal challenge we decided the quickest option was to withdraw the application, make the necessary amendments and to resubmit it. This we have now done. The scheme remains the same, to restore the void created by the continuing removal of clay for use in the brickworks by landfilling with 4.1 million tonnes of residual, non-hazardous waste. We have included with the new application an explanation of the amendments we have made following our review of the details.”
He concluded: “We hope that given the time and effort already spent on this application and the eight weeks of consultation which has already taken place that the new application will be dealt with promptly so that the Planning Committee is allowed to make a decision on it as soon as possible.”
Cory Environmental has been in discussion with the Planning Department at West Sussex County Council regarding the comments made on the application through the consultation period and will be responding to questions raised over the coming weeks.
