Cory Environmental’s Lincoln contract has become the first business in Lincolnshire to be affiliated to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Heartstart UK scheme.
Cory Environmental employees will now be trained to save people’s lives in situations they could encounter on a day-to-day basis in their public facing jobs. Cory plans to use the scheme to train 150 employees a year, from office staff to refuse collectors, street cleaners and grounds maintenance staff.
Heartstart UK is a BHF initiative to teach people what to do in a life threatening emergency. It includes how to recognise a heart attack, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), dealing with choking, serious bleeding and unconscious casualty.
Jerry Greaves, Senior Contracts Manager at Lincoln said: “We are very proud to be the first business in Lincolnshire that is affiliated to the BHF’s Heartstart UK scheme.
“We are working with the public all of the time, whether it is cleaning the streets, cutting the grass, collecting refuse or recycling so if something happens to you and one of our employees is nearby, they will know what to do and could save your life.
“We hope that all our operations across the country will now apply for affiliation to Heartstart UK, using Lincoln as a blueprint”.
Jane Palmer, BHF Community Resuscitation Co-ordinator, added: “Affiliation to Heartstart UK is offered to groups within the community and schools that wish to teach Emergency Life Saving training. It is a means by which these groups can be linked to each other and receive ongoing advice and support from the Heartstart UK team, who are widely experienced in resuscitation training and practice. This is the first business we have had in Lincolnshire and we are delighted to welcome Cory Environmental on board.”
