New source of funding for local community projects
Date: 10-11-2008

The Highfields South Trust has been formed to support environmental improvement projects in the Rushall, Shelfield and High Heath area. Local people will manage the trust and will select suitable projects in accordance with ENTRUST guidelines.

Funds are being made available from landfill tax raised by Cory Environmental, the operator managing the restoration of the Highfields South Quarry. Cory has established ten similar trusts throughout the country and together they have contributed £36million to thousands of projects over a period of ten years. Projects that are eligible for landfill tax funding include restoration of historic buildings, refurbishment of community and sports centres, the improvement of some gardens and play areas and the enhancement of woodland, riverside and other wildlife habitats. The Highfields South Trust is keen to attract applications from organisations involved in similar projects in the Rushall, Shelfield and High Heath area.

The Chair of the Trust, Margaret Hayes said “We are delighted that Cory has helped us establish the Trust. We hope to support a range of projects big and small over the coming years in ways that will make a real difference to the lives of the local people”.

Jenny Doyle, Project Manager of Cory Environmental said “The new trustees are to be congratulated. It is wonderful that local people are running the trust and Cory will do whatever it can to support them in putting something worthwhile back into the community”
