Hafod Quarry and Landfill site, located at Johnstown, near Wrexham, has been purchased by Cory Environmental Resource Management from Mersey Waste Holdings.
Cory Environmental, one of the UK’s leading recycling and waste management companies, formally took over the ownership and operation of the site with effect from 29 August 2008. The local community were informed of the change by a newsletter mailed by the company to households in Johnstown and North Ruabon.
Hafod, which has been in operation since 2006, has a permit from the Environment Agency Wales to accept a range of non-hazardous waste — the sort of waste normally produced daily by every home and business. The site is being progressively restored to grassland and woodland, with final restoration expected to be completed ahead of the permitted timescale for the operation of the site.
As the new owner and operator of Hafod, Cory Environmental has promised to implement the high environmental standards that the company sets at all its facilities, and to actively look at ways in which the future operation of the site can be improved.
Alistair Holl, Director of Cory Environmental said, “Cory Environmental has an excellent track record of high operational standards across its facilities. We also are known for being approachable and developing good relations with the local communities in which we operate. We look forward to meeting and working closely with the community and stakeholders in the area around Hafod.”
