Cory Environmental and Rutland County Council have teamed up with Otto UK to provide a complete waste management solution for the county's fortnightly waste collection service. Otto Uk will provide Cory with the bins and lifters.
Cory has been the waste contractor in Rutland since the early '90s when a wheeled-bin system was in use and options for recycling were limited, although a small proportion of homes were able to recycle plastic and paper.
The new system uses three coloured bins: dark grey for non recyclable residual waste, light grey for recyclables; and green bins for garden waste. Households that compost or do not have a garden can opt out of green bin collections.
After a successful pilot of three-bin collection service at RAF Cottesmore back in January the green waste and recycling service was rolled out across the county in April.
Chris Minnis, Cory's project manager, said: "We've had the Rutland contract since 1993 and we'd like to think that we know the area very well. The pilot was a success and we have had a positive response to the new system".
Rutland is the smallest county in the UK comprising approximately 16,000 homes and covering an area of 147 square miles.
