Cory Environmental wins again as Truro is crowned cleanest tourist city
Date: 26-03-2007
For the second year running Carrick District Council and its street cleansing contractor Cory Environmental have been successful at the Clean Britain Awards.

This year Carrick and Cory won the Special Chairman's Awards when Truro was crowned for the best Tourist's Eye View.

In addition to the kudos associated with winning the award , the Council will also receive a special prize of a Gumbuster street cleansing machine.

Nick Seviour , contract manager , Cory Environmental said: " To win another award this year is extra special , as it proves that our standards are continuously high and that it is a level that we can sustain . It's a great acknowledgement of all the hard work put in by everyone on the contract".

Alan Miller , principal officer for waste management at Carrick District Council said: " I am delighted that Truro yet again received a Chairman's Award . This had only been made possible due to the various close partnerships within the Authority and all the hard work put in by every member of staff involved in keeping Truro clean".

At the Clean Britain Awards ceremony , run by the British Cleaning Council (BCC), Birmingham shed t its image as England's second city after stealing the crown of Cleanest Place in Britain from the City of London.

The competition was re-launched last year as the Clean Britain Awards , formerly Britain's Cleanest City , to allow towns and districts to enter as well as cities. More details can be at www.britishcleaningcouncil.org/
