Cory Environmental Trust in Britain Cory Environmental Trust in Britain (CETB) was established in 2003 as an Environmental Body, under the terms of the Landfill Tax Regulations 1996. It was set up initially to fund and support projects that involved research and development and educational activity into sustainable waste management. Shortly after CETB was established, the Landfill Tax Regulations were amended and such projects - known as Objects C and CC - were removed from the Scheme, which resulted in the Trust changing its focus towards the support of community based projects. CETB now has awarded grants to over 240 projects, with a total value of £9.1 million, funding a broad range of projects, from climbing walls to bumblebee surveys. Its Trustees seek to support projects that have as big an impact on the community as possible, reaching young and old, and everything in between. Owing to the fund being heavily over-subscribed, any projects relating to religious buildings must be able to demonstrate strong community use. The provision of public amenity, in particular relating to outdoor pursuits, will be given priority over restoration (Category E) projects. As a Distributive Environmental Body (DEB), CETB registers the projects that is selects to fund with Entrust, the Landfill Communities Fund regulator, although it is also pleased to receive applications from other Environmental Bodies, whose projects have been registered directly. All applicants are required to identify an independent 3rd party who is willing to contribute the 10% 3rd Party Funding, which must be paid directly to Cory Environmental Management Limited on project completion. The focus of CETB's activity to date has been in the vicinity of Cory Environmental's landfill sites in St Helens, Dudley, South Gloucestershire, Sevenoaks and Wrexham. An additional area of focus from 2007 onwards is the London Borough of Bexley, where Cory Environmental also has waste management operations.
