Cory Environmental Trust in Southend-on-Sea
Cory Environmental Trust in Southend-on-Sea was launched in 1997 to distribute Landfill Tax Credits to fund environmental improvement projects in the Borough of Southend-on-Sea. Since then, to the end of 2005, the Trust has contributed £750,000 to 60 projects that have been completed successfully and, in addition, grants approaching a further £750,000 have been agreed for projects in progress.
The Trust has six Trustees, two of whom are nominated, one by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and one by Cory Environmental. The other four Trustees are elected alternately, to each serve for four years. The Trustees usually meet at four monthly intervals.
During 2003/4, the Landfill Communities Fund, under which the Trust operates, was reformed by the Government and the funding available nationally was substantially reduced. However, through the generous on-going donations by Cory Environmental, the Southend Trust has annual funding in excess of £160,000 for distribution in support of projects in Southend-on-Sea to improve to public amenities, repair churches and other buildings of historic and architectural interest and for ecological projects.
If you want to find out more about the work of the Trust, or if you have a proposed project that you think might be eligible for funding by the Trust, please contact the Secretary, Graham Garner.
